The woman is dressed in traditional clothing. The children are dressed casually, with one boy in pajamas, a girl in a colorful top and striped skirt, and another boy in light-colored clothes. The setting appears to be outdoors with dirt ground.

The need for housing is dire

In the poorest areas of highland Guatemala, many indigenous families live in makeshift homes that are constructed of cornstalk, corrugated metal, or cardboard, with nothing but dirt for the floor.

Living in these unsafe conditions strips families of both dignity and hope. Further compounding the situation, this type of house fuels chronic health problems.

Help us Build a house in 5 days

Our program is structured so that our volunteers can build an entire house, from start to finish, in just 5 days. Working with our loyal team of construction workers and alongside the recipient family, volunteers of all ages can take part in this hands-on work experience.

On the final day of construction, a heartfelt key presentation ceremony is held within the completed home. During this poignant occasion, volunteers formally present the keys to the family, symbolizing the transition into their new residence and the start of a new chapter in their lives.

Our houses are made of concrete block, cement, and painted in bright colors chosen by the homeowner. Each home has a metal locking door, a skylight, and a working window. We build in the villages surrounding Antigua, based on where the need is greatest at the time. Most job sites are a 30 to 45-minute drive from Antigua, where our volunteers stay. Hotels, homestays, Airbnbs, or hostels are available.

While the primary focus of the trip is home-building, volunteers often take the opportunity to explore the rich cultural and historical offerings of Antigua. Some participants stay for only a week, while others choose to extend their time over several weeks. For those interested in further travel, excursions to destinations such as Climbing Volcán Paycaya, Lake Atitlán, or the renowned market town of Chichicastenango are popular options either before or after the build.

Our simple 13 x 19-ft block homes are life-changing to our community members. More profoundly than simply providing a safe & secure place to sleep at night, the home gives our families the dignity needed to face the future with hope.

In March of 2024, we proudly reached the milestone of completing our 2000th home.

TOGETHER, WE HAVE BUILT 2152 HOMES!!
